INSULIN PUMP THERAPY PROGRAM Course Description: Insulin pump therapy offers a tremendous asset to people
with type 1 and type 2 diabetes as they manage their diabetes care.
The purpose of this course is to familiarize health professionals with
insulin pump therapy; the philosophy of pump therapy, its advantages for daily
diabetes control and prevention of short and long term complications, the
basal/bolus concept, carbohydrate/insulin ratio, and the insulin pump process.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this seminar, the participant will be able to: 1. Describe the mechanics of insulin pump therapy 2. Identify the benefits of insulin pump therapy as related to intensive diabetes management and the prevention of short and long term complications 3. Recognize the Basal/Bolus concept of insulin administration, including carbohydrate/insulin ratio 4. Demonstrate competence in insulin pump administration 5. Discuss the management of specific case studies on pump therapy Course Presenters: Wini Schaedel, RN,
MSN, CDE. Wini is an advanced practice clinical nurse specialist and
certified diabetes
educator. She has been
working in the diabetes field for 15 years.
She
developed and coordinated the Partners In Care Diabetes Education
program in Wini is currently practicing
at clinics in Karen Koch, RN, BSN,
CDE Karen is a registered nurse and certified diabetes
education. She currently works for Animas Corporation.
She is an expert in insulin pump therapy both
